Each calendar month, each BigOven user gets five
(5) chef medals to give away to other users, and no more.
They're free. But they're limited.
Throughout each month, you can give them all to a single chef, or
spread them around. But remember, you only have five to
give away, so use them wisely!
How they're used
1) Your medals show up on your chef page and increase your stature
in the BigOven community of cooks. Example:

2) You can see who's ahead in total medal count and medals in
the recent past on our
Leaderboard.
3) Over time we hope to cook up some custom
suggestions for you based on who you've indicated is medal-worthy.
So give them out to chefs who make dishes you really like, or cooks that
inspire you, or just to helpful folks you admire!
4) The big benefit of medals is that we quickly identify, as a community, the
people who are leaders and we can thank them. New users can also
see some of our most respected leaders at a glance.
5) In the future, we may be awarding real prizes
to those chefs who receive the most medals each month. But right
now, it's just for fun.
To award a chef a medal, either visit their "Chef Page"
by clicking on their name, or
look them up in the directory. Or, see the links on a
given recipe page for that user. Use them to thank a chef for
taking the time to share something useful, like some recipe photos, helpful tips,
useful newsgroup postings, or terrific new recipes.
Don't be shy! Give a medal to a chef you
like today!
